CONCLUSION
What discoveries did you make? What do you still want to learn?
For me, this project has helped me understand and appreciate the strife endured by the Taiwanese which brought me here, to this point in America. Along the way to completing this project, I have learned new things about my heritage, such as how Taiwan persisted to fight in order to obtain their independence, and what steps and sacrifices it took to achieve it. By researching this topic, I am able to empathize more with my people at home. From their unique culture developed the basis of Taiwanese-American identity that I share with many other classmates and people here. While in my previous passage about my own identity I mentioned that I am separated from the people living in Taiwan due to the divergence of culture and lifestyle, this project has been enlightening in that it rekindled my interests in understanding history and its effects on the modern world. This project has helped me reunite with my roots and understand the identity that defines me today. While this was an interesting subject and project to endeavor, its overall purpose has been greater for me -the History of Us project has given me motivation to learn more about my family history and my nationality and has also taught me to value traditions, which I can apply past this assignment's deadline. After this project is over, I wish to continue to learn more about this rich history; such as the many individual experiences of Taiwanese citizens during eras such as the KMT rule (where such work was censored), in order to compare them with those of current survivors of the time period, and draw insight on how times have changed and developed.
